Welcome to More Than Brothers
A Note From Roger
Thank you for your unwavering support, encouragement and prayers. I left the Army this past summer (2009) and have moved to the southeast to be close to family and friends. Lauren and I are well and though we miss the Army, we are very much enjoying our time together and out of uniform. Having been separated for over three of our seven years of marriage, we are eternally grateful for the comfort that comes with knowing that deployments are no longer a part of our lives.
I am working for a great company that plays a significant role in assisting the security efforts of our men and women overseas and Lauren is teaching at a wonderful elementary school in the local area.
The Case and My Army Service
We left the Army with a General (under Honorable Conditions) discharge. This is not the Honorable that we had fought for, but we will appeal in good time. In the mean time, we are trying to grow a nice long on-line petition that we can submit as a part of my future request for appeal.
In the spring of 2009, the Army made a short press release stating that they had decided not to pursue a general courts martial over this case due to a lack of evidence.
Recent coverage of our story by CNN has been the most significant to date. CNN approached us this past fall (2009) following another Iraq based GWOT story highlighting our military’s failed evidence gathering policies.
First Sergeant Scott
First Sergeant Tommy Scott is still stationed at the home of the 101st Airborne. And though he was reduced in rank for the actions he took to safeguard his men, respect and reverence for him and for his leadership has only sky rocketed since the closing of our case. It goes without saying that all who know him still refer to him as "First Sergeant".
First Sergeant Scott is also recovering from a disc-hernia surgery and is due a couple of knee surgeries soon. Tommy is an old paratrooper and his days of diving through the clouds are beginning to catch up with him. On the whole, he and his family are doing very well.
The Defense Fund
Thanks to your help, we were able to raise enough money to help us settle all of our legal expenses. My attorney, Neal Puckett, was very gracious and gave us ample time to get our affairs in order with regards to the defense fund. It took some time, but we are now square.
Special Thanks
A special thanks goes out to all the blogs, radio, print and television that took on and supported our case until the end. I am afraid that without your help, little transparency over this case would have been achieved. A special thanks goes out to the following and many other organizations that took their names and put it behind ours in a very public manner.
